David Douglas(Tenor) & Esther Swift(Harp)

“A Scottish evening! Dave Douglas (Tenor) and Esther Swift (Harp) specialise in Scottish folk music in such a professional and enchanting way one gets as completely lost in their music as in any classical symphony.”

Alchemy is a fresh and exciting Voice and Harp duo. Their music and performances have been described as “something extremely special”. Their fusion of classical and traditional music makes them versatile and unique. They have been fortunate in having several works composed specifically for them, including a new song cycle, setting several of the poems of Robert Burns, by the composer Elfyn Jones and a new version of “My Love is like a Red, Red Rose” by Toby Hunt. In addition to this, the pair continue to set and arrange their own versions of traditional and classical songs. Performance highlights include a recital- A Scottish Journey, in the studio theatre of the Royal Northern College of Music, the premiere of three new settings of the poetry of Robert Burns in the Concert Hall of the RNCM, recital in the Whitworth Art Gallery and a live performance tour of Manchester radio stations, including ArtsBeatFM, performance for Oxjam Birmingham, recitals in Gallery Oldham and the CBSO centre.
